Welcome everyone to our AGM.
Our club has
now been going for five years and has achieved something new every
year.
In the last twelve months, we have joined the National Junior League. Competed
in our first national team competition, namely the National Young Athletes
Road Relays in Birmingham.
Organised the inaugural New Forest Primary Schools Sportshall Championships
and cross country relays, in addition to competing in road races for the first
time.
The club also held its first club presentation evening and disco. This was
on top of our established programme of events and competitions.
The club also won its first competition, by winning the Wessex Track and Field
League Plate final.
So a thank
you to everyone who helped make our club so successful, athletes, coaches,
officials and helpers.
What of the
future? Well the club has now, with the exception of the installing
the throws cage completed our original development plan.
So I feel we need a new development plan in order to progress and conform to
the requirements of our governing bodies.
It would appear
our yearly fixture list is now full, so competing in additional competitions
would be difficult.
The only competition requiring an answer is our men's team in the National
Junior League, where we struggled to field any first claim athletes.
Our involvement
with the schools and colleges is vital. It would appear the primary
schools are well served locally, the senior schools however are more
difficult and plans are in hand through the New Forest Schools to encourage
athletics and recruitment to the club. The
club should consider new ways of attracting athletes who often wish
to come along but have already been joined football and gym clubs.
Club training
nights continue to be popular and with our equipment now kept at Hardley
School together with an improvement in the facilities this summer the
situation appears acceptable, as is Applemore College .
So thanks
again everyone. I'm sure the athletes appreciate all the efforts made
on their behalf.
