Welcome to our latest club newsletter.  We’ll try and keep you up to date and informed of what’s going on in the club, future events, achievements and lots lots more. We’ll publish every month so don’t be too disappointed if something you want published isn’t. Just let us know and we’ll put it in next month.

Welcome

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2007.  This year looks to be another bumper year for the club with plenty of opportunities arising, both in cross country and track and field competition. So keep up the training and let’s make 2007 another great year.

Cross Country

The season has progressed with the county champs at a very wet and rainy Basingstoke. Our under seventeen girl’s team of Rachael (Hardley), Kelly (Houndsdown), Becky (Testwood) and Stephanie (St Anne’s) took team bronze.

Well done to them and Charlotte, who made the county team with 5h place in the under twenty’s race.

The following week we had a Hants league fixture at Reading. New U13 girls Tyler (18th) and Jess (31st) both had good races considering they only just made the starting line after having to sprint to the start from across the park!. The county schools were on the Isle of Wight at Carisbrook.

Again Charlotte had a good run in the Senior Girl’ race securing 6th place and selection for English Schools. Emily (hopefully joining the club) had a great run in the Junior Girl’ race to finish 13th and selection for the Inter Counties at Bexhill.

A well done to everyone who turned out at the various races. There are still two Wessex and one Hampshire league to go as well as the Hants schools under 13/14 champs at Alton on the 8th February.

So there will be no letting up of distance training this month.

Sportshall

Zara took second place in the under fifteen girl’s Hampshire League Sportshall competition. Well done Zara, we need a photo for next month’s newsletter!

Track and Field

  • Fixtures are slowly becoming available. The first Wessex Young league match at Bournemouth (22nd April) may be moved to another date however. Full details in the next newsletter. We are competing in the Wessex and UKA Young Athletes leagues this season. Age groups will be from under 11s to under 20s.
  • It’s nice to see after an enforced break, how well our under 11 ’s section has picked up. Numbers are improving and the children are enjoying the sportshall equipment we have obtained over the last few months. A big thanks to Angie and her son Peter for all their hard work with the group.

  • New Forest School Sport partnership at www.nfssp.co.uk. Our club is working very closely with with the partnership and hopes to improve our links with all the schools, both Junior and Senior in the New Forest. It’s worth a visit.
