to our first “autumn” newsletter. The new school term means that the club moves back to Noadswood School and the use on Tuesdays of its fine sportshall. We have also taken the opportunity to continue until 8:30pm in order to offer some additional and varied training.
Congratulations. After her success at the high jump this year, Chrissy turned her attentions to the English Schools Combined Events Championships at Exeter in September. Again, she was to achieve success with a well deserved second place in the U17 girl’s heptathlon. Chrissy has been our most successful athlete to date and deserves all the success she achieved this year after all her hard work and dedication. Well done.
Annual General Meeting. The club will hold its AGM on October 15th at Noadswood School starting at 8pm. Please note there is a school parents meeting the same evening, so car parking will be difficult. All athletes and parents are free to attend the meeting, the club is always looking for new committee members and volunteers.
Winter training has commenced on Tuesdays at Noadswood School during term time until Easter 2008. Training times are 6:30 to 8:30 (Under 11s 6:30 to 7:30). The endurance group also meets on Thursdays at Noadswood School at 6:30 for a long run. Between three and four miles is the usual session.
Cross-country season begins this month with our first fixture at Farley Mount, Winchester on Saturday 13th October. Athletes interested should contact Tim Wilding (02380 848914) as soon as possible if they wish to compete.
Southern Road Relays. We were only able to send two teams on the day. Our under thirteen girls did well in 34th place (out of 48). Well done to Ellie (9:51), Georgia (9:56) and Rhianne (10:37). Our under seventeen women were less successful finishing 29th (out of 29). However they ran well (Kelly 13:14, Steph 14:12 and Racael 13:43). But the opposition was particularly tough this year.
Under Eleven’s Group. Please note we are keen to build up our U11s group. Our first Tuesday evening sessions went well under the leadership of Pete Schreiber who kept the group busy and happy throughout the session. At present we have a few spare places so don’t delay if you know of any youngsters interested.
Contact Tim Wilding on 02380 848914 (or T.WILDING@sky.com) for more information.
Skittles Evening. Subject to confirmation the club will hold a skittles and social evening at Ashlett Creek, Fawley on Saturday 26th January. More info next month.
