The track and field season has finally arrived and the club has already completed two league matches at Bournemouth and Winchester. Please try to make yourself available as at present despite several great performances we are finishing down the order due to having so few athletes available on the day. Our next fixture is on Sunday May 17th at Portsmouth. Let’s try and get a big turnout for this one.
Wessex Young Athletes League
The club had its first completion at Bournemouth on April 26th. We only had a small team and had to settle for sixth place (out of seven) with 210 points. Our under thirteen boy’s team however had a good result finishing in second place. Well done.
UKA Young Athletes League
Again our U13 boys were particularly successful with a total of 13 wins including our first relay of the season. However, with only a small team we had to settle for third place (out of four) on the day.
New Forest Schools Championships
The schools championships are on Tuesday 19th May at Bournemouth. Please make sure your school has entered you. If you are first or second in your event, you should then be representing the New Forest District at the county championships in June or July (U13/14s).
Also there are some open meetings. Team Southampton is holding evening open meetings each month during the summer. These are particularly recommended as it is a good low key introduction to competing on the track or field. Contact Dave McManus or Tim Wilding if you wish to compete or need some advice. New Forest School Sport partnership at www.nfssp.co.uk. Our club is working very closely with with the partnership and hopes to improve our links with all the schools, both Junior and Senior in the New Forest. It’s worth a visit. |
