The Juniors travelled over to the Isle of Wight on Sunday 15th June for their second Wessex Young Athletes League match of the season.
Conditions were ideal with plenty of sunshine and little wind. The Juniors were up against five strong clubs and had to settle for sixth place on the day, although only 18 pts behind the fourth placed club. The under thirteen boys and girls teams as well as the under seventeen women did particularly well finishing high in their age groups.
In the under thirteen girl’s age group, there was yet another hit trick of wins for Tyler Hole. This time in the 100m (13.7s), 800m (2:32.7s) and 200m (28.0). Isobel Springett in her first competition won the 100m “B” (14.4s). Georgia Morris had another fine win in the 1200m (4:22.4).
The boys, in the same age group had some good performances with Dylan Knight had two second places in the high jump (1.35m) and 800m (2:43.4s) in addition to winning the javelin “B” (16.51m). Bradley Dukes picked up two wins in the 800m “B” (2:48.6s) and shot “B” (4.07m). George Hayward was second in the long jump (3.90m) and Ben Brearley won the “B” long jump (3.65m).
In the under fifteen girl’s age group, Sam Parsons and Emily Shore continued their fine form. In the 200m Emily was third (28.3) and Sam first in the 200m “B” (28.7). Sam also took second place in the 300m “B” (46.4s) and Georgina Crouch was second in the 100 “B” (13.9s).
Marie Atkinson had two successes in the under seventeen women’s competition, winning both the high jump (1.45m) and javelin “B” (17.88m). Chrissy Parsons was first in the shot (9.17m) and second in the javelin (21.73m) and discus (25.35m). Hayley Platt won the high jump “B” (1.40m).
Match result. Isle of Wight 550, Andover 354, Portsmouth 324, Bournemouth 309, Oxford 301 and New Forest Juniors 291.
