About Us - News "Foresters prosper in the rain"

From Southampton Daily Echo published on Wednesday 8th June 2005.

WITH more boys available this time round, New Forest Juniors improved to fourth place in the second match of the UKA Young Athletes' League at Southampton (on June 5th).

Despite rain and windy conditions, the Foresters managed several creditable performances in the Southern Division 2 SouthWest match - particularly in the under-15 girls' category, where Tiffany Markham shared in two maximum-point coups.

Her A-string 75m hurdles victory (12.2sec) was complemented by B-string winner Zara Martin (14.0) and Markham also provided a B high jump success (1.43 metres) to match Christina Parsons' A triumph (1.46).
Highlight of the under-13 girls' performances was a 59.3 win for Gemma Knell, Amy Rowan, Emily Forsberg and Zoe Swash in the 4x100m relay. Marie Atkinson scored double B-string victory in the high jump (1.35) and long jump (3.51).

Although having to settle for third place, under-17 woman Hazel Feary achieved a grade two standard in her first-ever triple jump competition, stretching out to 9.55.

For the boys, under-17 Jamie Martin just missed out on victory in the under-17 high jump. He lost on countback after jumping 1.64.

Their only under-15 girls' success came in the 4x100m relay where Ailsa Roberts, Zara Martin, Christina Taplin and Chrissy Parsons swept to victory in 53.2 seconds.

Susan Roberts ran into form for NFJ's under-17 women, heading the 100m (13.0) and 300m (44.6) races.
