New Forest Juniors' under-17 women produced the club's best performance at the weekend's South of England Road Relays at Aldershot's Rushmoor Arena.

Hayley Pointer led the way in ninth in her last race for the Juniors before transferring to Team Southampton, clocking 11 minutes and 34 seconds over the three-kilometre course.

Laura Marzaroli clocked 15.05 on the second leg and Charlotte Bates had a fine third leg, running 11.37 to secure 20th place out of 29.

In the under-15 girls' race, also over 3k, Alice Cole ran the first leg in 12.22 followed by Becky Knell in 12.34. Kelly Way completed a fine team performance, recovering several places in 12.22 to clinch 25th overall.

The B team were 53rd out of 59 thanks to Amelia Faulkner-White (12.59), Rachael Smallwood (13.33) and Stephanie Smith (14.40).

NFJ's under-13 girls finished 40th over the 2.3k course. Gemma Knell led them off in 9.33, followed by Stephanie Smallwood (10.06) and Hayley Platt (11.25).

The B team could only muster two runners due to illness, but Lavina Nkomo had a fine first run of 9.39 and another newcomer, Harriet Hall, clocked 10.55.

About Us - Bates is a big success story

Charlotte Bates was one of the big success stories for New Forest Juniors in the Wessex Young Athletes' League Plate final at Kings Park, Bournemouth.

Sparkling in the September sunshine, Bates dominated the under-17 women's middle distance events, winning the 800m in two minutes, 30.2 seconds and the 1500m in 5.07.9.

The Juniors' other successes came in the under-15 girls' age-group where Kelly Wey won the 1500m (5.23.8), Becky Knell took the 800m honours (2.37.9) and the 4x100m relay team of Ailsa Roberts, Tiffany Markham, Chloe Foot and Chrissy Parsons sped to victory in 54.5.
